Who I Am

Jorge Requena Ramos for Winnipeg South Centre
A Community-First Leader. A  REAL voice for you.

Hi friends!! I’m seeking the federal candidacy for Winnipeg South Centre and asking for the support of NDP members in my riding

I’m Not a Politician— I’m a Community Advocate.
I didn’t set out to be in politics. As a first-generation immigrant, I came to Canada with a deep appreciation for it’s hard working people, community, and rich culture. Over the years, I have built a career as a musician, filmmaker, business owner, and advocate. As the co-founder of Prairie Boy Productions and the leader of award winning troupe The Mariachi Ghost, I have spent my life telling stories that bring people together, celebrating the power of culture, and fighting for a more just society. My journey has always been about creating spaces where ALL people can thrive. My work at the West End Cultural Centre has been dedicated to place-making and community empowerment.  In every step, film, music and advocacy I have rooted for our community. I am dissatisfied with the Liberal leadership and deeply concerned about the possibility of a conservative one. So I’ve decided to Join the fight and bring that same passion, experience, and leadership to Parliament.

Fighting for Affordability & Fairness
I know that life is getting harder for working families like mine. Small businesses in our community have it tougher, and it’s a hard time for young people trying to build their future. I believe that our economy should serve the people who fuel it, that our communities should be supported, and that no one should be left behind.

A Strong Alternative to Politics as Usual
The Conservatives want to cut taxes for the wealthy and gut public programs, while the Liberals promise progress but often fall short. I, alongside the NDP would offer a better way forward—one that ensures economic growth works for all Canadians, not just the well-connected. I want our government to make human rights a top priority and ensure every child in our nation and abroad is safe.

Respect, empower, include.
This little mantra has been fuelling my work for years. I’m a strong believer in reconciliation and Indigenous rights as the central framework for Canadian policy. I also know the Canadian economy would be impossible without the contributions of immigrants like myself. What we need is inclusion.
I want to ensure governments are following the lead of Indigenous, Queer and racialized advocates as they build policy because the world belongs to all of us.
